Book Review – Phantastes

Very impacting book I just finished reading. This video is long and a bit rambly, and doesn’t really do it justice. Worth a watch anyway.

It looks like a skunk dropped his toupee onto your head.
Looks cool though.
excellent review mate. re: the poetic feeling of the book-it was indeed macdonald’s first published prose work and the man himself once referred to prose as ‘broken down poetry’. as for the bits of poetry really in the book, i don’t dredge up them that well (i have the same edition as you and the poetry is in VERY small print, so it was hard to concentrate on.) Anyway, the report itself is stunning, but probably needs more than once reading because its initial impact is nearly entirely emotional.
I see. Your pronunc. would seem the right one then. He wrote another book called ‘Lillith’ which is supposed to be excellent but hard to get hold of.
fantast |?fan?tast| (also phantast)
noun
an impractical, impulsive person; a dreamer.
ORIGIN late 16th cent.: originally via medieval Latin from Greek phantast?s boaster, from phantazein or phantazesthai (see fantastic ); in modern use from German Phantast.
I guess are convincing – it would depend on whether it follows the French or the Greek. If you find out, let me know.
Is it pronounced ‘phantastss’ as here, or ‘phantast-ees’, I don’t know..
Be grateful you for doing this book review. George Macdonald was a wonderful man and a fantastic author.
Awesome book—maybe one of the best fiction that I have ever read to be honest with you—
