excellent review mate. re: the poetic feeling of the book-it was indeed macdonald’s first published prose work and the man himself once referred to prose as ‘broken down poetry’. as for the bits of poetry really in the book, i don’t dredge up them that well (i have the same edition as you and the poetry is in VERY small print, so it was hard to concentrate on.) Anyway, the report itself is stunning, but probably needs more than once reading because its initial impact is nearly entirely emotional.

I see. Your pronunc. would seem the right one then. He wrote another book called ‘Lillith’ which is supposed to be excellent but hard to get hold of.

Is it pronounced ‘phantastss’ as here, or ‘phantast-ees’, I don’t know..
